The YSU Women’s basketball team faced off against the Oakland in what was an impressive victory. The Penguins were coming off of a 2 game setback and needed a win to get their rhythm back. The Penguins had four players in double figures. Heidi Schlegel lead with 20 points, Kelsea Newman had 13, Nikki Arbanas had 11, and Latisha Walker had 10 along with 9 rebounds. The women started off the game slow but ended up scoring 14 straight and shooting 76% to end the first half of play. The biggest change in the game was when the bench players came in and hit some shots to open up the lead. Walker struggled in the first half but picked it up in the second half. She’s a force to be reckoned with along with the hard play of Heidi Schlegel. The Penguins will take on Detroit in their next game.
The YSU Men’s basketball team faced off against Green Bay in what was a tough lost for the Penguins. They struggled to maintain possession of the ball throughout the entire game yet still put themselves in position to win the ball game. After overcoming a 14 point deficit along with 8 turnovers, the Penguins still managed to take lead going into half time. Sophomore Marcus Keene had a huge second half for the Penguins connecting on 5 three pointers ending the game with 21 points. The Penguins also had 3 other players with double figures. Senior Shawn Amiker had 11 points while Senior Dj Cole and Junior Bobby Hain chipped in with 10 points each. Green Bay scored 22 points off of turnovers. YSU will travel Sunday to face Wright State.
